About SVAJ
Skokie Valley Agudath Jacob Synagogue was formed in 1995 by the merger of Skokie Valley Traditional Synagogue (founded in 1956), and Congregation Agudath Jacob. In 1998 Bnai Jacob Synagogue of Rogers Park merged with us. Our moderately sized synagogue of more than 250 families is small enough for each member to be treated as an individual, but is large enough to support our magnificent sanctuary, our well-maintained building, and our first class professional staff.
Located in Skokie, a vibrant Jewish suburban community north of Chicago, we are a major synagogue well into a generational change. We provide a unique alternative in our community.
Skokie Valley Agudath Jacob is a Synagogue with accommodations and Minyanim for Traditional and Orthodox Services. Our main function is to provide daily prayer services, morning and evening each day of the year, for our congregants and the community. For Shabbat mornings and Holidays we provide two services, one Traditional with family seating, and one Orthodox. Daily services are conducted in our Bet Medrash Chapel or the Aaron Israel Hall, in an Orthodox setting.
Our synagogue considers the spiritual growth of its membership a top priority, and offers numerous opportunities for learning.
Rabbi Gerald Teller, and Rabbi Sam Biber are energetic and enthusiastic spiritual leaders. They, and other members of our faculty provide classes throughout the week.
We would like to involve each congregant in Adult Education, Visitation of the sick, Chesed Society, Shabbat hospitality, mutual respect toward all Jews, and commitment to the State of Israel and its people.
