Action Needed Now!

Friends,

As you know the Federal government has moved to provide unprecedented levels of financial assistance to both small businesses and non-profit organizations that are vital to our community during the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.  Of particular importance is the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).  Congress is about to pass an additional $484 billion in PPP funding to make forgivable loans to small businesses and qualifying non-profits.  This will ensure their continued operation and survival, and protect the livelihood of their employees.  Importantly,  PPP funds are available to synagogues and schools that form a critical part of our communal infrastructure.  SVAJ has applied for funding under the PPP to bolster our finances and keep us strong to continue serving all of you.

The PPP has already disbursed its initial $350 billion allocation;  the Senate has passed a further $484 billion package and the House is deliberating on it.  It is vital to our community, both to SVAJ and beyond,  that this additional funding be approved on a timely basis.  To that end, we ask that all of you reach out to our Congressional officials to thank them for their efforts in passage of the initial PPP legislation, and to urge them to move the second allocation forward without delay.

Friends, we cannot overstate the importance of this action.  Time is of the essence.  So please take just a few minutes to send a note to Senators Durbin and Duckworth and Representative Schakowsky to help push this essential legislation along and keep funds flowing at this difficult time.  Here are links to their websites where messages can be sent:

Senator Richard Durbin, www.durbin.senate.gov

Senator Tammy Duckworth, www.duckworth.senate.gov

Representative Jan Schakowsky, www.schakowsky.house.gov

Three key points to make:

  • You are residents of Illinois and you live in the 9th Congressional District
  • You are appreciative of their work on the PPP to date in supporting small businesses and non-profits and safeguarding the livelihoods of millions of our fellow citizens
  • You urge the approval of the additional $250 billion in PPP funding without delay and acknowledge the importance of supporting organizations like SVAJ and other which are directly serving a broad segment of our community

Many thanks to all of you.   Stay safe.  Stay healthy.
