Camp Shana Tova!
We are excited to offer Skokie Valley members in person, drop-off childcare and programming for children over 5 for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur mornings. Camp Shana Tova will be a fun, safe day of games, tefilla, sports, learning and more! Camp will take place entirely outdoors and all participants and staff will be required to be fully masked and maintain social distance. See below for more information.
Location
Central Park in Skokie, 9350 Central Park Avenue
Skokie Valley has retained exclusive usage from Skokie Village of the covered picnic shelters, bathrooms, and ball fields. We will share the playground, basketball courts and picnic tables with the public.
Staffing
We have hired Courtney Hall to be the director of Camp Shana Tova. For the past 3 summers, Courtney directed Summer Camps with the Skokie Park District. This past summer she served as the director of the Outdoor Sports Camp, the largest camp in the SPD. The camp ran successfully for several weeks with no incidences of COVID transmission. She also works in special education for the Winnetka School District. She is first aid certified and CPR certified.
Madrichim will be hired to serve as counselors, and should we need additional staffing to maintain the SPD ratios of children per staff we will recruit additional staffing.

For the 11:30 - 1:30pm session, campers are asked to bring their own lunches.

COVID Safety Protocols
All campers and staff must be masked at all times, except when eating. Eating will be done while socially distant, spread out in the field.
Bottles of hand sanitizer will be on-site to sanitize hands at pickup, drop off, and between activities.
All campers and staff will be required to do a daily assessment for COVID-19. Should a camper or staff fail to pass the assessment, they will not be permitted to participate.
Pick up and Drop Off Procedures
All campers must be picked up and dropped off by a parent. Under no circumstances may a camper come or leave alone or with anyone other than a parent. Courtney Hall will greet all campers and their parents by the picnic shelters at drop off. She will handle sign-in, including the COVID assessment, and then direct campers to their counselors.
The following assessment will be given to each camper:
-
Is the camper or anyone in the camper’s family experiencing chills, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea?
-
In the past 2 weeks, has the camper been exposed to someone with a diagnosed or suspected case of COVID-19?
-
Does the camper have a fever of 100.4 or higher?
-
Has the camper recently traveled within the last 14 days to a location with sustained widespread transmission per the Cook County Department of Public Health?
Only parents will be allowed to do drop off and pickup.
Pickup will happen at the picnic shelters as well.
Emergency procedures and contacts
All parents are required to fill out exactly where they will be during the times their children are at camp.
Courtney Hall will have her phone on and with her at all times.
There will be individuals stationed at Skokie Valley and Kol Sasson prayer locations that will have a phone with them. Courtney will have the numbers of all phones at all prayer locations, as well as the camp roster with all the names, addresses, and emergency phone numbers for all parents.
Emergency Protocols:
If: Medical emergency, Camp Director calls 911 and then follows parent contact procedure below:
If: Non-medical emergency, but parents need to be contacted:
Camp Director looks up location of child’s parents
If parent is at Skokie Valley - call the Skokie Valley Contact number. Skokie Valley Contact locates parent, either gives them the phone or informs them they need to report to Central Park, depending on situation.
If parent is at Kol Sasson, Camp Director calls the Kol Sasson Contact number. Kol Sasson Contact locates the parent, either gives them the phone or informs them they need to report to Central Park, depending on situation.
If parent is at home, Camp Director calls the home number and speaks directly with the parent.
If parent cannot be reached at the location they are supposed to be at, Courtney deputizes the phone handler at Skokie Valley or Kol Sasson to locate the parent and have them call Courtney or report to Central Park.
